Our August issue focuses in on the space market and includes the announcement that DDC’s high density NAND Flash Memory was designed into the Pearl Single Board Computer, which will be utilized on the NASA BioSentinel CubeSat spacecraft, and is baselined for use on multiple upcoming missions for both NASA and the DOD. Also included are announcements on DDC’s guaranteed radiation performance Sp-COTS™ (Space Commercial Off-The-Shelf) products, and DDC’s new “Class A” test flow for our cost saving RAD-PAK® and even lower cost Rad Tolerant (RT) hermetic parts, providing the most economical space grade solutions for short, cost-sensitive, or non-critical applications or missions. DDC’s NAND Flash Chosen for the NASA BioSentinel CubeSat Spacecraft!

DDC proudly announces that our Rad Hard high density NAND flash memory has been selected to be integrated within the Pearl Single Board Computer (SBC), that is used as the flight computer on NASA’s BioSentinel CubeSat spacecraft. The Pearl SBC, along with DDC’s flash memory, is baselined for use on multiple upcoming missions for both NASA and the DOD.

DDC Rad-Hard Memories

The 5 Approaches for Producing Radiation Hardened Solutions

June 2018 – Electronic components and systems are highly susceptible to damage and malfunctions caused by ionizing radiation. These environments may be encountered in high altitude flight and in outer space, as well as in the vicinity of nuclear reactors or devices. In order to ensure the reliable operation of electronics subjected to such environments, a variety of techniques can be employed to make them radiation tolerant. This article will highlight the value of the various radiation mitigation technologies available.

Radiation Performance of a Flash NOR Device

We present the results of single-event effects (SEE) and total ionizing-dose (TID) testing performed on the die used in DDC’s 56F64008 flash-NOR devices. The device was single event latchup (SEL) immune at LET=85 MeV cm2/mg. All single event functional interrupts (SEFI) observed could be cleared by resetting the part without a need for power cycling.

Correlation of Single-Board Computer Ground-Test Data and On-Orbit Upset Rates from the Gaia Mission

DDC's SCS750 single board computers (SBC) have been operating without interruption on board the Gaia satellite since its launch in 2014. The uninterrupted operation is possible because of several hardening techniques that allow the SBC to correct single event upsets (SEU) in the constituent components. We present on-orbit SEU data for the SBCs. All errors analyzed here were corrected by the SBC and had no effect on mission operation. We analyze the data to determine the accuracy of current models, as well as the effects of the space weather environment.
