DDC Announces Its New Multi-I/O Avionics PMC Card
Multi-protocol PMC card saves valuable PMC slots for 1553 and ARINC 429 data bus applications.

Bohemia, New York (September 6, 2006) Data Device Corporation (DDC), a leading international supplier of high-reliability data interface products, introduces a new multi-protocol PMC for MIL-STD- 1553 and ARINC 429 data bus applications. The BU-65590F/M is a multi-protocol PMC card that provides up to four dual redundant 1553 channels, sixteen ARINC 429 receive channels, four ARINC 429 transmit channels, six user programmable Digital Discrete I/Os, two RS-232 Serial I/O Channels, two RS-422/485 Serial I/O Channels, and an IRIG-B time synchronization input. This mutli-protocol card can be ordered with either rear I/O or front panel I/O and is available for convection or conduction cooled applications.

DDC’s new Extended Enhanced Mini-ACE (E2MA) Architecture is used for the 1553 interface. Based on DDC’s field proven, industry standard, Enhanced Mini-ACE Architecture, the new E²MA architecture builds on previous generations of DDC products while maintaining full software compatibility. Each 1553 channel has 1 MB RAM with parity, 48-bit / 1 micro-second time tag synchronized to an IRIG-B input and built in self test. Each 1553 channel can emulate a Bus Controller, Remote Terminal, or a Bus Monitor. The device also includes a combined RT/Monitor mode to monitor all 1553 communications on the bus, including the 1553 channel’s own RT address.

Each ARINC 429 channel supports high/low speed operation, message scheduling, label filtering, and full error detection. Received data can be stored in either FIFO buffers or system address label mailboxes. Transmit data can be sent in FIFO mode or scheduled rate mode on each transmit channel.

The board also comes with up to two RS-232 channels that can be controlled by RTS/CTS and DTR/DSR serial data flow signals. All versions come with two RS-422/485 channels. All serial I/O channels can operate at baud rates up to 921.6 Kbps.

The BU-65590F/M includes High Level C API (Application Programming Interface) Library Software that supports all advanced architectural features, and driver support for VxWorks, Linux, and Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP for MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429 functionality. The easy-to-use high level library functions abstract all register accesses and memory allocation so that specific hardware knowledge is not required. Prototypes with MIL-STD-1553 capability are available now and cards that include ARINC 429 capability will be available later this year.
