Bohemia, New York (January 17, 2005) - Data Device Corporation (DDC) announces the introduction of the industry’s first COTS conduction cooled, flyable Fibre Channel Switch. The FibreMATRIX™ series of switches complements DDC’s existing FibreACCESS™ network access controllers (NACs).

FibreMATRIX switches incorporate DDC’s Fibre Channel Intellectual Property in a flexible, FPGA-based architecture. DDC’s independent IP enables the tailoring of FibreMATRIX products to meet specific customer needs, while providing superior support for the long life cycles of military and aerospace programs.
The FibreMATRIX switch and FibreACCESS NACs have demonstrated interoperability with equipment from major Fibre Channel-based avionics programs, as well as equipment from many commercial suppliers.
The FibreMATRIX features avionics specific functions such as implicit fabric initialization and login, which benefit military and aerospace customers with fast system startup at power-on and recovery. FibreMATRIX performance provides 2 µS maximum port-to-port latency and line rate throughput. Features include Class 2 and 3 service, including broadcast, multicast and hunt groups; support of 128 priority levels; ELS clock sync client and server; and capability for I_Port (“snooping”) operation.
FibreMATRIX offers support for larger networks through switch-to-switch expansion, and switch management through standard Ethernet or serial connections. Management features include field programming of routing tables, login parameters, and switch configuration parameters, plus the capability to re-flash all switch firmware. In addition, the capability of downloading configuration files allows configuration of multiple switches with identical parameters or easy restoration of switch configuration to a known state. FibreMATRIX also provides menus for switch statistics and health monitoring/Built-In-Test.
The FibreMATRIX 8 or 16-port Fibre Channel switch supports optical, 1- or 2-Gb/sec operation, and wire-speed, non-blocking switching. FibreMATRIX switches are available in a rugged, conduction cooled VME64x form factor, supporting a -40 to +85° C temperature range. Commercial temperature and convection options are also available.
