Bohemia, New York (October 2018) Data Device Corporation (DDC) announces the introduction of its RD-19231 Series of 16-bit Resolver-to-Digital (R/D) Converters, which offer 3.3V or 5V compatibility and are designed for high performance aerospace, industrial, and commercial positioning systems. The RD-19231, contained in a small 64-pin plastic quad flat pack (10 mm x 10 mm), is a drop in replacement to all RD-19230 legacy designs, and replacement requires no modification of the Printed Circuit Board (PCB). This single SOI CMOS monolithic chip merges precision analog circuitry with digital logic to form a complete high performance tracking R/D converter with accuracy up to 1 arc minute. For convenience and flexibility, the RD-19231 offers user programmable encoder emulation, resolution, bandwidth, tracking rate, velocity scaling and a new selectable I/O voltage output of 5V or 3.3V. Furthermore, an internal encoder emulation feature (with independent resolution control) enables the RD-19231 to emulate incremental optical encoder output signals, so that new encoder based systems can now easily interface with a resolver output.

Bohemia, New York (August 2018) Data Device Corporation (DDC) announces that the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL), developer of the robotic servicing payload for RSGS, has chosen DDC’s SCS750® Single Board Computer (SBC) for use on the Robotic Servicing of Geosynchronous Satellites (RSGS) program for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). RSGS will provide an on-orbit satellite servicing vehicle that will transform U.S. space operations in Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO). As the lead payload developer for the program, NRL selected DDC’s SCS750® SBC due to its processing capabilities, radiation performance (in particular with the best in class upset rate of 1 uncorrectable error in 80 years), known reliability and flight heritage (TRL-9 since 2013). Several of DDC’s SCS750® SBCs will be used in the RSGS satellite, providing for all aspects of control including attitude control and robotic control, along with video processing.

OHB Italia selected the SCS750 for its high reliability design features, high performance processing capability and TRL-9 space proven experience. OHB is the developer of the main electronic units of the two instruments of the VIS (VISible imager) and NISP (Near Infrared Spectrometer and Photometer) under a contract with the Italian Space Agency (ASI5) with the scientific contribution of INAF OABO1 (Bologna Astronomical Observatory), INFN2 (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare) and IAPS3 (Istituto di Astrofisica e Planetologia Spaziali) for the ESA4 EUCLID mission. The ESA Euclid spacecraft includes a near-infrared space telescope designed to map the dark universe.

The high power density 80V/30A rated MC-5000 series BLDC motor controller operates over an extended -40°C to +105°C temperature range, and is available in configurations to support motors that utilize a Hall sensor for torque and speed control, or absolute PWM and incremental encoder feedback for position control. The device is fully configurable through the provided CANopen control interface, and can be programmed, via an easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI), enabling it to deliver optimal motor performance with a wide variety of brushless DC motors and loads.
