Military Applications

DDC's products have been a stable part of Military programs since they were first introduced over thirty years ago. From programs such as the F-15 and Hawk in the 1960's and 1970's to recent programs such as the F-22, Joint Strike Fighter, and Abrams tank upgrade, DDC products are there. DDC's long-standing commitment to quality and reliability are evident by our MIL-PRF-38534 Certification and Qualification, issued by DSCC, Defense Supply Center Columbus, the governing body over military electronics.

Aircraft

Military Aircraft, such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon, C-130 Hercules Transport, B-1 Bomber, and the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter, utilize DDC's MIL-STD-1553 Data Bus products. A MIL-STD-1553 data bus allows complex electronic subsystems to interact with each other and the on-board flight computer. This data bus is the lifeline of the aircraft. DDC's products function as the interface between the sub-system electronics and the data bus. Due to our commitment to excellence and advanced technical expertise, DDC has been the long-standing leader as a supplier of MIL-STD-1553 components.

The same highly complex Military Aircraft use DDC's Motion Control and Position Feedback electronics for the precise control of flight surfaces and instrumentation. DDC's line of Motor Drive/Control components provide the intelligent solution to precisely monitor and control the critical electronic motors. DDC's Synchro-to-Digital converters provide the position feedback from a rotating shaft to a microprocessor. This enables very precise control of almost any moving part on the aircraft.

Missiles

Missiles and Smart Bombs, such as ASRAAM (Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile), AIM-9X, and WCMD (Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser), have become more sophisticated and resultantly more precise and lethal with the advancement of microelectronics. These weapon systems have benefitted from the use of MIL-STD-1553 data buses. Just as aircraft use a data bus to allow sub-systems to interact, the missiles and smart bombs use a MIL-STD-1553 data bus to download information from the aircraft just prior to launch and to coordinate information flow during the flight of the weapon. DDC's MIL-STD-1553 components have consistently been shown to be the hardware of choice for these highly technical, highly demanding applications.

These highly technical missiles are capable of traveling hundreds of miles at over twice the speed of sound and hit strategic targets with pinpoint accuracy. To accomplish this the fin actuators and seeker heads require precision control. DDC's Motor Drive/Controllers and Synchro to Digital Converters provide the motion control and position feedback for the fin actuators and seeker heads.

Ground Vehicles

Ground vehicles such as the M1A2 Tank, Bradley troop transport, and the Crusader self propelled howitzer have evolved into highly technical, highly sophisticated mechanisms. They now use MIL-STD-1553 Data buses to form the data link between their electrical subsystems. Precise control of the main turret, and other weapons systems, is accomplished by Synchro-to-Digital Converters. Both of which are applications of DDC's products. With the abundance of electronic equipment on-board the vehicle, load management became critical. DDC developed a line of Solid State Power Controllers that provide the load management and electrical switching required to keep all on-board systems functioning at their best.
